The Geist area is interesting for many reasons and it has a rich history. The history of the Geist reservoir area is no less interesting. It was a tiny hamlet called Germantown , whose parcels were systematically bought up by Clarence Geist in the 1930's, then put to their death in 1943 when Fall Creek was dammed to create the reservoir.
There are only a few historical buildings remained at the Geist area:
1.) The Log Cabin (now the Log Cabin Animal Hospital), built in 1938
2.) The Round Barn Inn Bed & Breakfast, built in 1910
3.) The McCordsville Barber Shop, built in the middle of the last centure, now in a 1970's caboose.
The Log Cabin (Log Cabin Animal Hospital)
Log Cabin Animal Hospital inhabits the oldest structure in the Geist area. It can be considered the only remaining structure from Germantown , because it was completed shortly before the flood when "downtown Germantown " still stood just a few hundred feet away. The Log Cabin building hosts the GEIST MUSEUM inside which is free to visit.

The Round Barn Inn Bed & Breakfast
The Round Barn Inn Bed & Breakfast building (the Swartz-Dunham Barn) was built in 1916 and used primarily for housing livestock. It was one of 226 round barns built in the state of Indiana and one of the few left standing. Most of these structures, due to neglect, have been destroyed. The Round Barn Inn Bed & Breakfast building is one of approximately 100 still standing.
The barn was converted into a house over a period of a decade beginning in the mid '80's. It is the only round barn anywhere that has been renovated into a house. The original barn was purchased in 1996 then it was transformed it into a bed and breakfast and opened up for business in the spring of 1997. More about it...http://www.logcabinvet.com/mb/gvc-15.post
The McCordsville Barber Shop
Have you ever passed by the McCordsville Barber Shop and wondered what it might be like on the inside? The structure itself resembles a train station with an actual ticket window by the door with a figure inside meant to collect the tickets and an actual caboose on the side!
The owner/ barber Mr. Gary Wiley attended barber school forty three years ago. In the Barber school, his teacher made all the students clean out railroad cars in Beanblossom. He had a great idea while cleaning to someday put a barber shop in one! While he started the shop in McCordsville twenty eight years ago, the caboose came fourteen years later.
