Laboratory Tests
Here at Log Cabin Animal Hospital we collect and analyse many samples. These include skin, blood, urine, fecal, heartworm tests and others. With the technological advanced equipment available, a pre-surgical blood test may be analyzed and results reported in less than 20 minutes. During emergency situations this speed can save lives. While many of these tests are quickly done in our in-house laboratory some of the collected samples we send out to a specialized veterinary laboratory for serum-based allergy testing, cultures and sensitivity test to grow what is causing the different infections, enabling us to choose the correct antibiotics. This laboratory also helps us to monitor patients on long-term medications for seizures, chronic arthritis, heart problems and many others.

With our advanced communication system you as a pet owner will be able to view your pets medical record including all laboratory results on line here at our site. Any questions will be discussed at your earlies convenience on the phone, via e-mail or at our practice.
We use laboratory tests for three main reasons:
- for early disease detection before your pet gets sick (Wellness Exams and Geriatric Exams)
- for detecting and preventing zoonatic diseases before your pets make you sick (certain worms and others)
- for diagnostic purposes when your pet is already sick.
The key to a healthy pet is the early detection and prevention of disease.
The gradual onset of health problems in an apparently healthy pet often go unnoticed. Once symptoms appear the condition may be too difficult or costly to diagnose and treat. Age is not a disease; however, there are many conditions, that if diagnosed early, can be completely reversed or controlled for extended periods of time.
Regular dental care, vaccinations, parasite control and a balanced diet are essential for the health of your pet. Laboratory testing plays an integral role in the early detection of changes in your pet's health. Diagnostic tests provide essential information by which we can identify blood disorders, kidney and liver disease, diabetes, infection, cancer, thyroid disease and other hormonal problems.
